The Senate passed legislation to reopen the government and end the record-long shutdown after eight Democrats broke with their party and joined Republicans to break the logjam. The legislation would fully fund SNAP food benefits through the end of September, and keeps much of the government open on a short-term basis through January, but it does not extend expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies sought by Democrats. The measure now goes to the House, which could vote as early as Wednesday to send the bill to President Donald Trump for his signature. |
