A jury has found former Illinois Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson guilty of second-degree murder in the 2024 killing of Sonya Massey, a Black mother of two who called 911 about a possible prowler outside her home.

Body camera footage showed Massey talking to deputies and removing a pot of hot water from her stove before the shooting, saying, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.” Grayson testified he took her remarks as a threat, leading him to draw his firearm.
