U.S. crackdown on refugees has a notable exception: White South Africans

The Trump administration shut down refugee admissions from almost all nations. But this week it welcomed a group of 59 white South Africans, granting them refugee status.

After greeting the Afrikaners, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said Trump’s pause of the U.S. refugee program was always subject to exceptions, citing as an example refugees who “could be assimilated easily into our country.”
