After killing an unarmed man, a Texas deputy told his colleague: 'I just smoked a dude'

Timothy Michael Randall was on the phone with his mother when he was pulled over by Sgt. Shane Iversen of the Rusk County Sheriff's Office. What began as a routine traffic stop ended with Iversen fatally shooting Randall, who was unarmed. The deputy quietly retired after the killing and faced no charges.

After nearly two years and a federal lawsuit, Randall's mother finally saw the police video that captured his death. Its release sparked a backlash in rural Rusk County and set his mother on a crusade for justice.
